Much of our land has only been under cultivation for a fraction of the time of the great agricultural regions of Europe, Asia and North America, which means our soils have not been worked, depleted and reworked over centuries. That relative youth matters. Younger, less intensively farmed soil tends to hold on to more of its natural mineral and nutrient reserves, and the plants grown in it benefit accordingly. When we talk about sourcing New Zealand grown botanicals, we are talking about plants grown in some of the richest, least depleted soil left on earth.
